The Hungarian-Canadian Professional Community

Learn about the rich network of Hungarian-Canadian organizations, cultural centres, and professional associations that make up our vibrant community across Canada.

Hungarian-Canadians have built a rich and enduring community across this country, stretching from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Within that community lies a strong network of professional organisations — many of which KMME has partnered with over the years.

Sports and recreation Since the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, Hungarian-Canadians have been active in every sport available here. The Vasamas Sports Club in Toronto — founded by KMME members in 1947 as the Magyar Sport Club — remains one of the oldest multi-sport facilities in the Greater Toronto Area. The club hosts community barbecues, children's leagues, and annual sports festivals that bring together Hungarians and non-Hungarians alike.

Cultural centres The Hungarian Canadian Cultural Centre (HCCC) in Toronto's High Park neighbourhood serves as the social and cultural heart of the Hungarian-Canadian community. The HCCC has been the venue for KMME's monthly lectures for many years and also hosts the Christmas Festival, Easter Festival, and the Day of the Conquest of Buda (May 18).

Academic institutions York University in Toronto offers a Master of Arts in Hungarian Studies, taught and supervised by KMME's own members. The university also hosts the annual Hungarian Studies Conference, a gathering of students and scholars from across Canada and the diaspora.

Student associations There are Hungarian student associations at several Canadian universities, including the Hungarian Student Association at the University of Toronto, McGill University in Montreal, the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, and the University of Victoria in British Columbia. These associations organise lectures, cultural evenings, and social gatherings throughout the academic year.

Building connections KMME maintains active partnerships with every major Hungarian-Canadian organisation in Canada. If you know of an organisation or professional association that should be included in this listing, please let us know at magyar_mernok@kmme.org.
